Voice over Internet Protocol (also called VoIP, IP Telephony, Internet telephony or Digital Phone) is a technology that allows remote voice conversation through internet media. Voice data is converted to digital code and streamed through networks that transmit data packets, and not through ordinary telephone analog circuits.



The definition of VoIP is the voice sent via the internet protocol (IP).

The simplest form in a VoIP system is two computers connected to the internet. The basic conditions for holding a VoIP connection are computers that are connected to the internet, have a sound card connected to the speaker and microphone. Skype uses the HTTP protocol to communicate with Skype servers to authenticate usernames / passwords and register with the Skype server directory. A modified version of the HTTP protocol is used to communicate with fellow Skype clients. The advantage of this application is the availability of security services in the transmission of data in the form of sound. The security services provided are as follows:

Skype uses 256-bit AES (Advanced Encryption Standard) for the encryption process with a total probability of a brute-force attack of 1.1 x E-77 times, while for a symmetric key exchange process using a 1024-bit RSA . Public key users will be certified by the Skype server when logging in using RSA 1536 or 2048-bit certificates. Skype will automatically encrypt all data before being transmitted over the internet.

Authentication

Every Skype user has a username and a password. And each username has a registered e-mail address. To enter the Skype system, the user must include the username and password pair. If the user forgets the password, Skype will change it and send the new password to the registered e-mail address of the user. This approach is known as E-mail Based Identification and Authentication. Because Skype is a voice communication system, each user can directly identify his interlocutor through his voice.

VoIP benefits

Lower charges for long distance connections. The main emphasis of VoIP is cost. With two locations connected to the internet, the cost of the conversation is very low.
